The company was founded in 1891 by Gerard Philips and his father Frederik, a banker from Zaltbommel who financed the purchase and furnishing of an empty factory building in Eindhoven, where the company started the production of carbon fiber bulbs and other electronic products in 1892. The first Philips factory currently has a museum. In the 20s of the twentieth century, other products began to be manufactured. In 1939, the first electric shaver from Philips - Philishave was launched. Philips also introduced a cassette tape, which quickly became a hit.
