Poem, "In the Groove" is a original painting on a authentic NYC Subway Map. Signed and dated 2018. Unframed measures 23"x 32" (58cm x 79cm).
Poem's paintings have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and auctions globally, including the Lebenson Gallery in Paris, Pure Evil Gallery in London, Artrust Gallery in Switzerland and Doyle in New York.
Poem was born in Brooklyn, New York, and started painting graffiti in 1979. He first attracted attention for his graffiti when his work appeared on the cover of "Subway Art" by Martha Copper and Henry Chalfant, the most influential book ever to be published in the genre and considered by most to be "the bible" that covered the very first generation of spray paint artists of NYC.
Today his paintings have become more complex, by using figurative elements, drips, and graffiti elements which blend perfectly together; in his abstract compositions, the concept and approach to abstract painting is reinvented, and technically brilliant.
Commissioned to design and paint highway billboards for a Dutch campaign for McDonald’s. The project was filmed and turned into TV ads. He was also commissioned by MTV to paint a mural for the MTV Video Music Awards "Nominations", which was later filmed during a Facebook live broadcast.
