“Tip of a Sepik paddle”.

When the paddles were worn or broken, their tips were kept in the house of men, usually they represent a protective ancestor, as presented here. They could also be used as amulets and be worn around the neck.
Pyramidal headdress in relief, ovoidal eyes, a long nose ending on the stomach, the arms along the body.

In carved wood with a brown, reddish pigment. Wear due to the age.
Wonderful shiny patina of wear and age. With minor chips and little holes.

Sepik, Papua New Guinea. Middle of the 20th century.

18,3 cm of height.
