Original colour woodcut by Mizuno Toshikata (1866-1908) - bijin and new year decoration - Japan - circa 1900-10
Bust portrait of a courtesan dressed in a blue kimono, serving a lobster of a red lacquered tray, which is fixed to a moji (rice cake) with a red-white bow. The kimono is painted with floral ornamentation. Her gaze is off to the side and looks as if she is questioning something.
