Very rare and typical fragment of a military diploma; typical font style as on comparison specimens, which were found in Minerva temples; probably the piece dates from the reign of the emperor Septimus Severus (193 - 211 A.D.); Bronze 7.6 grams, nice patina;
SEVERO (probably stands for Septimus Severus)
CVI (for 16)
PRAE(tor) - (for consul)
Thorp(evm) - (probably stands for trophy)
I have purchased the diploma fragment some time ago here at Catawiki; comes from the art trade.
