Large oil painting, apparently from between the 17th and 18th century, featuring several figures in baroque dress, followed by an empty carriage, with other figures climbing the steps to antique ruins. A man in the distance, pulling a boat with what seems to be an obese figure, gives the painting a rather strange twist - perhaps this is more than just a landscape?
It measures 100 x 130 cm, oil on canvas.
An image of the canvas itself, taken from the back side of the painting is provided here for your information. Here, several patches and some old labels can also be found, all in German. Perhaps these can provide a bit of information about the painting's history.
I was given the painting, in trade, from a fine art restorer living in Austria. There are many cracks in the surface, please consult the photos for more information. I would consider the painting to be in poor condition and needing conservation. But it is also historic enough to be of interest to a profound collector who loves a riddle.
Because of the painting's size, I would prefer to offer it to a collector living in the EU. If you live outside the EU, please contact me before you bid.
100 x 130 cm is a size not taken by the most shipping companies, it is considered too big. So, it has to be specially handled. This means that the shipping costs will be higher than usual, and have been estimated to be 350 Euros.
