Leviticus (Hebrew ויקרא wayqrà ', "and he called", from the Greek principle Λευιτικόν, levitikòn, Latin Leviticus) is the third book of the Hebrew Torah and the Christian Bible.
It consists of 27 chapters, written in Hebrew, containing almost exclusively religious and social laws, for use by the priests and Levites, which Moses gave to the Jews during their stay in the Sinai desert (about 1200 BC).
Torah scroll manuscript.
In original Hebrew, handwritten on deer parchment.
Bible Scroll, from the book of Leviticus on Deer Parchment.
This hand-written parchment comes from Morocco and is about 300-350 years old.
The parchment has a warm light brown colour, due to the deer parchment and the process used to create the roll.
The scrolls of this type are no longer made and the process for making these distinctive parchments has been lost over the centuries.
It is very rare to find copies that are well preserved and united like this.
Important copy of the first examples of the Moroccan tradition of the Hebrew writings of the Bible.
The sections are sewn together using a thread called giddin, which is made up of the tendons of a kosher animal's legs.
In good condition, considering its age.
