These fiercefull annimals were ment to protect the grave from evel spirits.
These archeological objects called ‘ming’ki, were found in the tombs of deceased of highly ranked officials. People believed strongly in the afterlife.
Important persons, animals or objects were replicated in terra cotta figures and placed in the tomb, so the soul of the deceased could happily continue its afterlife.
