Moretti was born to Italian parents of humble origins, his father an anarchist carpenter from Tuscany, his mother a Umbrian cleaning lady, fleeing the Fascist Italy of Mussolini.
Raymond Moretti is certainly one of the most gifted and greatest French painters and sculptors of the 20th century. An instinctive portraitist, he illustrated many books, posters and magazine covers (Revue Littéraire, Pilote, etc.). He also left monumental paintings in his hometown of Nice and throughout France (including his renown 200m² mural in the Forum des Halles of Paris). He illustrated more than 30 French postal stamps.
Moretti was friends with Picasso and Cocteau and collaborated with both.
His work is unmistakable. Energy, confidence, dexterity and vitality. A Grand Master.
