Peña Muñoz, Maximino (1863-1940) is a Spanish Painter.
He studied in escuela de Bellas Artes de San Fernando de Madrid

He masters the technique of pastel painting as the one in this example.
With a profound expression which it creates a deep phycological meaning to the character.

It is a painter influenced by the realism from painters like (Gustave Courbet, Millet, Repin, Ekins..) Costumbrism and traditional thematic.
The portraits of the different stratum of the Spanish society of XIX/beginning of XX.

Some of his works can be found part of the two major collections in Spain: Museo del Prado and Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza collection (see links below)

He won several majors and he traveled around Europe. In 1885 he worked in Rome together with other painters: Moreno Carbonero, Muñoz Degraín, José Benlliure y Joaquín Sorolla.

It is in very good condition. With a size of 56 x 62 cm. Only slight marks on the edges due to the previous framing. Very vivid colors. Please, see photos.
