José Luis Florit Rodero (Madrid, 1909-París, 2000). Draughtsman and painter. He studied in Olot and in Figueras. During his early years he was guided by Juan Núñez. Later, he studied in the Escuela de San Fernando in Madrid, where he subsequently followed an engraving course with Esteve Botey. In 1930 he held an exhibition Madrid, together with Remedios Varo. He was a founding member of the group Artistas en Acción. In 1933 he obtained the third medal in the Exposición Nacional and in 1935 he held an individual exhibition in Madrid’s Museo de Arte Moderno. He also participated in the Venice Biennial. In 1936 he obtained a second medal in the Nacional as well as a position as drawing teacher. This was the reason for which he moved to Barcelona. At the end of the Civil War, he was appointed artistic director of the newspaper ‘Diario de Barcelona’.
