1 (title page) + 1 (empty) + Title page with full page hand-colored copper plate illustration + 1 (empty) + XII + 68 (First volumes description booklets) + 52 (second volumes description booklets) + 144 hand-colored copper plate illustration pages
Following the plate's description booklets, all 144 hand-colored copper plate illustrations are together in the book with their semi-transparent protective paper. But... When the book was bound, all illustrations were fixed with chronological orders from the time of art objects were made, from the 9th to the 16th centuries. Not the order of their own numbers. The title page of volume 2 is missing.
Although the back of the binding is damaged, on the inside, all illustrations are solid, clean and attached to the back. No pages have been loosed. (Check the images)
"When Kunstwerke und Geräthschaften des Mittelalters und der Renaissance was published, what purchasers in fact bought was a printed museum. With hand-colored copperplate engravings, the publication gives a comprehensive overview of applied arts in Europe from the 9th to the 16th centuries, spanning furniture, metalwork, jewelry, tapestries, bookbinding.
The book’s lead editor was well placed to select masterpieces from the Middle Ages through to the Renaissance from both public and private collections. Hefner-Alteneck, was head of the Royal Cabinet of Prints and Drawings in Munich. The signatures on the plates of book show that he was also the work’s main draftsman."
