1999 Château d'Ardennes Graves White
The AOC Graves extends for 60 km and follows the left bank of the Garonne to Langon. The vineyard of Graves is limited to the south-west by the Landes forest. This ideal geographical location allows the vineyard to be both protected from the weather, thanks to the forest of the Landes, and also the drought, thanks to the Garonne. The Graves vine is cultivated on a long gravelly strip composed of pebbles, clay and asteriated limestone. The terroir of this AOC, typical of the Bordeaux region, is so famous that it is the only one to have given its name to an appellation. The vineyard covers 3,500 ha and produces 163,000 hl of red and white wines each year.
The red wines are mainly made from the Merlot grape which represents more than 50% of the vines. The grape variety is often complemented with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The reputation of the mouth of the red bass rests on the balance between the power of the frame and the roundness and the charming volume of the wine.
The dry white wines of the AOC are mainly produced with semillon. They are both full-bodied and fleshy, fresh and fragrant and also very aromatic.
