Josef Sudek´s famous piece "The Last Rose" is an example of a sophisticated still life made up of discontinuous objects that the artist chose for visually aesthetic quality. The photograph was created during Sudek´s peak period when he produced several large, world-famous series, such as "My Studio Window" (1940 - 1954), "Walking Through My Garden" (1944-1953), "The Garden of My Studio" (1950 – 1970) and also "Still Life on the Window of my Studio" (1950 - 1958). To capture his famous views out of the studio window and the remarkable still life Sudek used large-format camera.

Josef Sudek along with František Drtikol are the most appreciated Czech photographers. Sudek's photo “The Last Rose” along with Drtikol's “The Wave” are considered to be the most precious in Czech photography. Both photographs are part of the collection at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague (UPM).
