About the Author: Václav Chochola (1923 – 2005) is an exceptional personality of Czech documentary and portrait photography of the latter half of the twentieth century. Chochola’s work exists within the boundaries set out by fine art, documentary work, and genre reportage. In his rich works, Chochola devoted himself to photography, portraits of celebrities (the portrait of Salvador Dalí), acts or sports photography. His documentary pictures from the Prague Uprising in May 1945 are invaluable. In 1970, Chochola was in custody for taking pictures of the grave of Jan Palach.
