Giorgio Tabet (Genoa 1904 - Livorno 2002).
In the summer of 1917 he made covers with floral motifs under the guidance of Giulio Cisari, invited by his father to Varazze to get him started on drawing and painting. In 1925 he started to collaborate with illustrations with “Il Secolo XX”.
In November 1926 he moved to Milan, where he shared his studio-house with Michele Cascella, and also started to collaborate with Lidel, directed by Gino Valori.
From the mid-twenties he collaborated with the satirical newspaper “Guerin Meschino” and with the newspaper “L’Ambrosiano”. With a particularly elegant style he represented the charm and atmosphere of the Lombard capital, the “poses”, the atmospheres, the types of the middle-class world in Milan between the two wars and beyond.
In the thirties he illustrated the covers and inner pages of magazines such as “Il romanzo mensile” (of the Corriere della Sera editorial) and “Gialli Economici Mondadori”.
One of the most famous and highly regarded illustrators, he made the covers for the series “Le scie” and “Omnibus” (Mondadori) from 1937 to the sixties.
From the mid-1938, due to the racial laws promulgated by the Fascist regime, he could no longer sign his works. In 1940 he left Milan and took refuge in Castelluccio di Norcia until 1944 to escape bombing and persecution.
After the Liberation, he started to collaborate with Salani. In April 1945, his son Guido was born. In 1945-1946 he collaborated with “La Domenica del popolo” and since 1949 he continued to illustrate “La Domenica del Corriere”.
In the last years of his life he especially devoted himself to painting, preferring portraits. He died at the age of ninety-eight in Cecina (Livorno, Italy) on 4 November 2002.
