Wraparound Skirt traditionally handwoven
We can sometimes note traces of wear, bands which are partially unstitched, and tints which slightly faded off over the years.
However, the offered wraparound skirts have been selected one by one, with much care and attention.
The pictures are part of the description.
The Malinke formed the dominant ethnic group of the Empire of Mali. Soundiata Keita, founder of the Mandingo Empire was Malinke. During the battle of Kirina, around 1235, he overthrew Soumaoro Kanté, and founded this empire. Since then, Soundiata inaugurated the charter of Manden or Kouroukanfouga, one of the first universal declarations of human rights, including laws against slavery, promoting education, ecology, the respect of each one’s life... this charter was only transmitted orally, by the Dyeli griots. During the 13th century, the Malinke were also at the origin of the creation of the Kaabu Kingdom in southern Senegal, as well as the States of Niani and Wouli, the Bambouk, states which lasted until the late 19th century, when these were conquered by European colonists.
