The Marka Dafing who call themselves Marka, live in a region located in the basin of the Mouhoun, between the Nunuma and the Winiama in the east, and the Bwa in the west.
They are closely related to the Marka Soninké who live in Mali. These two groups are the descents of a people from the former Empire of Ghana, defeated by the Almoravids in the 11th century. During the 15th century, after the fall of the Empire of Mali, the Marka settled in current Burkina Faso
Their political organisation is centralised: a chief governs several villages. In rural areas, the Marka are almost all animists. Like the Nunuma, they have the reputation of being powerful and dangerous magicians and are, therefore, respected. Within the cities, they became Muslims and devoted themselves to trade.
We can sometimes note traces of wear, bands which are partially unstitched, and tints which slightly faded off over the years.
However, the offered wraparound skirts have been selected one by one, with much care and attention.
The pictures are part of the description.
