Unknown edition (one of the first) BUT mention of sixth impression “le premier Octobre 1686”.
Le Cours de chymie is the major work of the apothecary chemist Nicolas Lémery, who lived during the reign of Louis XIV. The first edition of 1675, distributed in his laboratory, when he was not yet thirty one years old and had just finished his training at the University of Montpellier, would be permanently revised, completed and reprinted during the last forty years of his life.
A rich copy of 3 plates engraved in soft-cut representing the various utensils and chemical appliances (stills, ovens...).
Posterior binding in full 17th-century basane-calf, spine with 5 raised bands, boxes adorned in the style of the time. Good interior despite two small worm holes all along the work.
Numerous HANDWRITTEN MENTIONS from the time with pen in the margins.
Plus a fully handwritten table for pages 618 to 655.
