De Martino is a Classical artist, well known for producing small bronze busts.
The dominant theme of his production was childhood, and his works used to depict especially thoughtful, sad, bare children, on whose faces appeared signs of abandonment and suffering. De Martino became known with the nickname of ‘Lo scultore di bambini’ (the sculptor of children).
He participated many times at the Biennale in Venice in 1907, 1922, 1924, 1928, 1930.
His teenage and child themes are rendered with extraordinary effectiveness At the Quadriennale in Rome in 1931 he appeared with his friends "Italian artists of Paris" including: Gino Severini, Filippo de Pisis, Massimo Campigli.
