Painting depicting the sweet face of a “praying Madonna”, with burgundy red dress and draped blue mantle, with her head covered by a light veil.
Technique: oil on canvas.
Period: first half of the 17th century.
Condition: painting in excellent condition, with wooden frame and golden plaster, which doesn’t require any restoration but only the cleaning of the glass inside.
Origin: the painting was purchased at the famous Tauscheck auction house, Milan, in March 1954 (lot no. 585/1495) as shown in the awarding and purchase receipt. Part of a family collection.
Artist: the awarding receipt and the label on the back of the frame suggest the attribution of the work to Carlo Dolci (Florence, 25 May 1616 - Florence, 17 January 1686), the greatest Florentine painter of the 17th century.
