Gaetano Fasanotti, after enthusiastically joining the insurrectionary movement of 1848, dedicated himself to his artistic interests by studying with Giovanni Renica.
At the beginning of his career he became interested in historical subjects but soon he made landscape subjects with figures and animals.
In 1860 Gaetano Fasanotti was appointed Professor for Landscape of the Brera Academy.
The novelties he introduced in the teaching as well as the outdoor exercise caused conflicts with the academic council and the painter preferred to resign from his post and taught as private teacher
From 1861 to 1879 Fasanotti was regularly present in the exhibitions of the Brera Academy as well as at other events.
He stopped working In 1880, due to health issues.
Although his period of activity is rather short, his oil or watercolour landscape paintings can be found on the Lombard market.
He practiced mainly in Lombardy (Brianza, Como Lake), although from 1870 he painted also the regions of Palermo, Ischia, Livorno and Venice.
Various paintings of his composition can be seen at the Museo Poldi Pezzoli in Milan.
