Interesting work of German area, dating back likely to the 17th century and depicting a "Holy Family". It is an oil painting on panel, in a beautiful eclectic frame in gilt wood with elegant passepartout.
The subject composition follows the traditional iconography of Christian art, with Jesus’ Holy Family, composed by Mary and Joseph and occasionally including, like in this painting, the figure of St. Elizabeth and Young St. John.
The painter’s chromatism choices show the cultural legacy of the late Italian Mannerism, with primary complementary colours that are far away from realism and naturalism of the early 1600s. The "hints" of red in all the drapery adds lifeblood to a palette all in all rather dark and shady, yet lively and varied at the same time.
In good overall condition.
