88% tinto fino, 8% cabernet sauvignon, 4% merlot, malbec and albillo. Vinified and aged in cask for at least 10 years. Released in 1982.
97/100 Falstaff Magazine: "Medium carmine garnet, ocher reflections, wide brightening at the edges. Nuances of pickled cherries, red wild berry jam, nuances of herbs, dried dille, some caramel. Sweet, juicy and elegant on the palate, soft velvety tannins, good acid structure, long-lasting, fine extract sweetness on the finish, notes of prunes in the finish".
95/100 Robert Parker: "The most Burgundian (that's great Burgundy, by the way) wine of the tasting, the 1966 Unico Reserva exhibits a huge, fragrant, penetrating bouquet of sweet, jammy, black-cherry fruit, cedar, smoke, and earth. The saturated, dark ruby color reveals a hint of amber at the edge. Full-bodied, succulent, and velvety, this gorgeously-proportioned, decadently-styled Vega Sicilia is fully mature, yet its balance, freshness, and thrilling level of flavor extraction suggest it should easily glide through 15-20 more years. If readers have the financial means to drink one fully mature vintage of Vega Sicilia's Unico Riserva, it should be the 1966 or 1953".
Vega Sicilia tasting note (Serena Sutcliffet, Master of Wine & Head of Sotheby's international wine department): "In 2013 I tasted a bottle of this simply glorious wine, a glass filled with liquor of fresh berries and heather. Sensational from beginning to end. That same year, super sweet on the nose. Great complexity of flavors on the palate, with a wonderful balance between sweetness and acidity. Absolutely delicious and perfectly preserved. A celestial wine, of great consistency".
