Broadhurst, Washington Pottery - Theeservice voor 6 - Oud Wilgenpatroon (13) - Keramiek
Verenigd Koninkrijk - 1950-1974

A mixed lot of vintage English pottery teaware in Old Willow pattern.

The Willow pattern is a distinctive and elaborate chinoiserie pattern that became popular at the end of the 18th century. It was developed by English ceramic artists combining and adapting motifs inspired by fashionable hand-painted blue-and-white wares imported from China.

The story depicted in the pattern is based on the Japanese fairy tale "The Green Willow" and other ancient fairy tales originating in China about the constellations that tell the story of two lovers separated and envied by gods for their love. The lovers can only meet once a year when the stars align.

The set comprises:

- 4 tea cups made by Broadhurst. Height 6.5cm, diameter 9cm.
- 2 tea cups marked Made in England. H 7cm, D 9.5cm.
- 6 saucers made by Washington Pottery. D 14.5cm.
- a milk jug. Unmarked. Volume 0.2l approximately.

13 items in total.

Made in England ca. 1950-70s.

Condition: one saucer has a crack and there is a fine crazing on the jug commensurate with age and use; otherwise in excellent condition, the items appears to have hardly been used. Please refer to the pictures for detail.
