Dogliani Papà Celso is one of the best Dolcetto in Italy. It was the early ’60 when Celso Abbona implanted in Dogliani his first Dolcetto grapes. Today, his son Marziano has taken the legacy of production, making Marziano Abbona one of the most modern and interesting wineries in the scene of Piedmontese viticulture. Popular grape variety to the region of Langhe, Dolcetto di Dogliani is a caparbious grape for reds of full red pulp, of plum and raspberry: surprisingly rich in body but yet fresh of an extreme drinkability, it carries mineral notes gifted by the marly soil of Dogliani. If Dolcetto di Dogliani, the once-everyday wine of peasants has managed to climb up the ladder to become internationally relevant, it is surely thanks to Marziano Abbona: in the heart of the Town of Dogliani, this modern winery elaborates and matures (besides Nebbiolo, Barbera, Barolo and Arneis) the originary Dolcetto grapes which are destinated to become Papà Celso. All the grapes, cultivated on 30-years old vines, are fermented in steel tanks for 5-7 days, then matured for ten months and finally decanted, and refined in bottles, so to underline the slight minerality perfectly matching the fresh and pleasantly acidic drinkability, Dolcetto’s distinctive mark. Papà Celso is the perfect wine to start exploring the surprises in the Land of Dogliani; a wine of great class speaking knowledgeably and deeply about the story of Langhe.
