Exclusively Syrah grapes to celebrate the Cortonese territory through an enveloping and delicate wine. Its name is inspired by the god Achelo, depicted in one of the most important Etruscan works kept in the Museum of the Etruscan Academy of Cortona.
Winter 2018 was characterized by temperatures tending below the average and frequent rainfall. The mild climate starting from April, characterized by some rains from May until mid-June, has favored a slight advance of the vegetative development. The summer generally hot and dry but characterized by excellent temperature variations between day and night has ensured a slow and gradual maturation of the grapes. The 2018 harvest will be remembered for elegant and fine wines, certainly not very powerful but with an important and balanced body thanks to the good maturation of the tannins.
After the destemming-crushing, the must was transferred to stainless steel tanks where a cold pre-fermentative maceration took place in order to enhance the fruity notes. Fermentation, which took place at temperatures not exceeding 25 ° C, took place in about 10 days. 70% of the wine was then transferred to second and third passage French oak barrels, where malolactic fermentation took place, and the remaining part in steel. Achelo was finally bottled in early autumn 2019.
