Condition: Headdresses, joints in good-condition, solid hinges, 1 blunt corner, exposed plates in places, ribbed spine adorned with cold pressed filets, golden and title nets, some significant foxing on a few leaves, all golden edges, 1 cut grated by 1 cm. Complete.
An original illustrated edition of 24 steel engravings based on the Rouargue brothers (views, animated historical scenes) and 12 hand-coloured and scrubbed wooden military costume boards, as well as numerous in-text wooden vignettes. A folding map in colour with the map of the main cities. The work had been published for the first time in 1844, it was continued until the year 1853 in this partly original edition.
An imposing sum that was first published in 1844, and updated after General Randon's expedition. A reference in this field, and an essential pillar for any library dedicated to the subject.
Apart from the flaws mentioned, this copy is in good condition.
