Luciana Regalzi (Alessandria, 1925 - 2013), ‘L’albero sul ciglio’, oil on cardboard, 13.5 x 17 cm, with frame 30.5 x 33.8 cm.
A small study of landscape from life, this work is born from an intense and luminous palette, with a direct and textured use of colour that brings us directly back to the style of 19th-century landscape painting. Work preserved in very good condition, please note just some minor colour loss on front (hardly visible).
Framed in the original boxed frame, signed on bottom right.
Luciana Regalzi was born and worked in the beautiful Monferrato hills, part of a tradition of women painters that ‘goes back’ to the memory of the cultural circle of Sofia di Bricherasio, Delleani's pupil, who had created a cultural and artistic circle in Fubine, on the Alessandria hills, gathering together painting enthusiasts like her. The same subjects, landscapes of the Fubine and Quargnento hills, are repeated in Regalzi’s painting.
Critic Mogliati wrote about her: “A strong and confident brushstroke always guides the rigorous design. So the spontaneity of her brushstrokes is supported not by the uncertainty of the representation but by the pure light and colour that she sings in her landscape or other subjects that she is able to express with sensitivity and skill”.
