Gaetano Descalzi - Stoel (2) - Chiavarina

Gaetano Descalzi - Stoel (2) - Chiavarina
Italië - 1950-1959 - Hout, Kers, Textiel

A pair of authentic Italian chairs called “Chiavarine”. This model, the "Parigina", was designed by Giuseppe Gaetano Descalzi (1767-1855) in 1807, on commission of the Marquis of Rivarola. Very lightweight (each is 2.3 kg) and at the same time very sturdy, these chairs are made of cherry wood and have a Vienna straw seat, with vintage cushions upholstered in mustard velvet fabric with passementerie and tassels. In Empire style. This pair was made in Chiavari in the 1950s. In good condition; no missing pieces; free from breakages. The paint lost its density and shows some tiny surface lines. The cushions have been washed; their padding has been completely renewed.
The famous Italian architect Gio’ Ponti, inspired by the Chiavarina chair, in 1952 created the "Superleggera" chair no. 646.
Perfect for small rooms.
Dimensions: height 92 cm, length 43 cm, depth 45 cm.
