Sister of Apollo and Artemis, goddess of flowers and spring, Flora is represented as a standing female figure, surrounded by a floral crown, with a fluid soft dress. The hair, separated by a central line and organized in soft waves, is held back by a bun. The statue resembles the sculptures used in the elegant Renaissance houses.
Dimensions: 24.5 x 15 x 12 cm. Weight: 1035 grams.
Ormolu is the gilding technique of applying finely ground, high-carat gold–mercury amalgam to an object of bronze. It was common in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The process for making ormolu (gilt bronze) was quite complicated. Starting from a two-dimensional design, the sculptor made a three-dimensional model in wood, clay, or wax.
Gilt bronze/ormolu sculptures are extremely rare.
