Obverse: View on the battlefield, which took place on the beach and in the dunes near Nieuwpoort. The medal shows the moment where the combined Dutch and English armies, under the command of the Dutch Prince Maurice of Nassau, defeats the Spanish army. On the right one can see that the fleeing Spanish, pursued by the Dutch coming from the left. From the seaside, Dutch ships bombard the fleeing Spanish. HOC OPVS DOMINI EXERCITVM, 1600 around.
Reverse: This commemorative medal was struck by order of the province of Utrecht. Hence the reverse of this medal shows the coat of arms of Utrecht. TRAIECTENSIVM NVMISMA ORDINVM (Utrecht has ordered this medal to be made).
