An unusual round lidded box in hammered brass. The top of the lid and sides are decorated with a so-called "snake-skin" pattern which has been tinned to give it a silver appearance. The top of the lid is decorated with three long stemmed flowers held together by a rope with large wings and by the crown of "les enfants de France" (the children of the king of France, apart from the dauphin who had his own crown) with five fleur-de-lis. The crown indicates that this box was once owned or offered by someone of the french royal family.
France. Early 19th century (circa 1820/40)
