One folio volume (320 x 230 mm), 18th century vellum binding, ribbed spine, morocco title label, ink drawing with “Fonteneblau, muy señor mio recivo lade Vi” inscribed on the front cover, title in a frame with scrolls painted in red and yellow, [19]-[157-[1] leaves (complete). Signatures : π6 [a-b]6 [A-Z]6 [Aa-Bb]6 Cc4 Dd4. Blunt corners, lightly cracked upper joint, foxing, ink stains on leaves S3 and S4. Nonetheless in very good condition.

Original Italian edition of this famous work, illustrated with 141 in text large woodcut camaïeu medallions enhanced in bistre, 14 empty medallions and 1 large oval medallion painted in camaïeu with the double portrait of Maximilian and Philippe.

The portraits of the emperors are reinterpreted based on original medals. 14 places have empty medallions, the author having preferred to refrain from any representation of emperors for whom he had not found a medal.

Hubert Goltz was a Flemish numismatist and painter who was a friend of the geographer Ortelius. This book is his first work. It consists of the presentation of a collection of medals of the most significant emperors from Julius Caesar to Charles V.
