Orginal obong leather binding, rbbed, frontcover detached. These lions were a popular sight in menageries Rembrandt & others closely observed and recorded the specific characteristics of these exotic animals in a few drawings.
Fine series of etchings of lions by Bernard Picart (1673–1733), including 18 after drawings by Rembrandt, and others by Durer and Charles Le Brun. The first plate shows anatomical details of the claws of the lion. The charming frontispiece shows a wooded landscape, with the skin of the Nemean Lion draped over a rock and Hercules' club resting agaist it. Brunet IV, 630.
