Antoine Baumé (1728-1804) was a French pharmacist and chemist, famous for his chemical experiments and "inventions" on materials of various subjects...
In this edition, from 1795, he attempts to demonstrate that water is not composed of hydrogen and oxygen by refuting the experiments of Lavoisier and Laplace.
New edition, revised, corrected and expanded by the author, complete with 5 plates and the table of eaux de vie.

x 13 x 6 cm, 840 grams) xlj, 835 pp., period full calfskin binding, adorned ribbed spine, red edges, with 5 out of text engravings and a fold-out table of eaux de vie.
Cover, corners, crowns and joints in good condition, a small, inconsequential crack on the spine, decent inside, free of foxing, complete of the 5 plates (the only edition with 5 plates) and the table, in very good condition.
