A lovely work by one of the most famous travellers of his time, J.-B. Tavernier.
After visiting most of Europe, he travelled six times to the Indies, where he amassed considerable wealth, thanks in part to his trade in precious stones.
When the Edict of Nantes was revoked, he went to Switzerland, then to Germany where he was appointed director of the Compagnie des Indes. On his way to Muscovy, he fell ill and died in Copenhagen.
He is best known as the man who brought the blue (Hope) diamond back to Europe.
