Venery, or hunting with hounds, is an ancestral way of hunting which consists of chasing a wild animal (traditionally stags, wild boar, roe deer, fox or hare) with a pack of hounds until it is exhausted and captured. Only dogs hunt, thanks to their sense of smell and predatory instinct. The role of the human being, generally on horseback for the occasion, is to control and follow them.

A superb and large sword or dagger of venery, dating from the 18th century. The handle is made of gilded brass with inlays depicting hunters, dogs and various game animals. It is very solid, without play, with a shell-shaped guard, in remarkably well-preserved condition. The blade is engraved and also in good condition. The sheath is made of gilded brass, wood and leather, and is also in a remarkably well-preserved condition. The sabre fits perfectly in its sheath. This item has been very well maintained, arriving to the present day in more than exceptional condition. It is entirely original and very, very rare, almost impossible to find on the market!
Very rare, 100% original.
