African mask in wood, from the Baule ethnic group of Ivory Coast.
These sorts of masks represent natural phenomenons, like rainbows, sun sets or the moon, these are generally exhibited at the beginning of the procession of the Gbagba, to “warm up” the audience before the arrival of the most important dance masks.
The mask comes with a handcrafted base made in Ivory Coast.
This mask is representative of Baule art, with a lovely balance between the forms and the volumes, as well as finely carved details.
