Medal for the March on Rome
Rare and artistic bronze medal commemorating the March on Rome, officially minted by the company F.M. Lorioli & Castelli of Milan based on a graphic model by sculptor Eugenio Baron.
The medal is round with a square bail. The obverse features the figure of a winged woman symbolizing "Victory" holding wreath of oak leaves in her right hand and supporting a fasces with her left hand. The figure is in the front of a group of legionary insignia, fasces and daggers.
On the back, in the centre, is a cartouche enclosed between four fasces, where the recipient could have his name engraved. The inscription "MARCIA SU ROMA - 27 OTTOBRE 1 NOVEMBRE 1922" is around the cartouche.
At the bottom side of the square is the name of the manufacturer who was awarded the contract and the initials of the engraver: "F.M.Lorioli & Castelli Milano EB Mod" while further down, on the right side and below the horizontal fasces, is the engraved inscription "Rip Ris" which stands for "Riproduzione Riservata" (reproduction is reserved).
