Hendrik Kranenburg lived and worked in Amsterdam before settling in Laren in 1943. He studied at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam (1938-1942) under the direction of J.H. Jurres and W.H. from the mountain. He won a prize for portrait painting and a grant from the Davidsfonds (Arti and Amicitiae in Amsterdam). Kranenburg drew (pen and pastel), etched and lithographed. However, he has become most famous for his oil paintings, especially of cityscapes.
Often they were also wide landscapes, monumental with a rich color palette. The paint was applied thickly to the canvas with coarse pen strokes, which often made a more than one-dimensional impression. His style was very similar to the painter W.G.F. Jansen.
The grand clouds above the landscape or townscape are a feast for the eyes and also betrays the influence of the Hague school.
Beautiful painting from the painter mentioned above, farmland windmill, peasant woman feeding chickens to others...
