First edition of this interesting work in the wake of Abbé Nollet's Leçons de physique expérimentale (1749).

Rare binding with pyrogravure, produced at the time in glazed tan calfskin, both covers adorned with pyrogravure, the royal coat of arms on the front cover and a maple branch motif with leaves and berries, meticulously executed craftsmanship. Ribbed spine adorned with a label and embossed gilded motifs.

Abbé Jean Cochet, born on 10 July 1698 in Faverges (Geneva) and died on 8 July 1771 in Paris, was a professor of philosophy at Collège Mazarin, headmaster of the Collège du Cardinal Lemoine, rector of the Université de Paris from 1748 onwards.

A lovely copy, a sound and decorative volumes, the leather of the spine is a bit faded, the headcap is open, rubbed joints and cracked at the head, slightly blunt corners. Fresh and clean inside. Wormhole on the bottom margin, not affecting the text.
