Large-size, beautiful and rare plate of ALLAN QUATERMAIN by Mike HUBBARD published in the English magazine ‘The Ranger’ in the late 1970s.

Indian ink, gouache and wash drawing.

Size: 42 x 34 cm.

Mike Hubbard, a cartoonist, born in Dublin in 1902.

He drew many stories in English magazines.
In the 1960s, he began working in ‘Princess’, where he drew the romantic adventures of ‘Nurse Angela’. His best-known series was ‘Jane Bond, Secret Agent’ published in Tina and Princess Tina between 1967 and 1970.

In 1965, he began drawing for ‘The Ranger’, a boy's weekly in the ‘Eagle’ style, producing adaptations such as ‘King Solomon's Mines’ and ‘Allan Quatermain’ and a story called ‘The Coral Island’ for ‘Look and Learn’ magazine. All his last series are fully coloured.

He died in 1976.
