Yves-Marie André, whose full name was Yves-Alexis-Marie de l'Isle-André, was a French Jesuit priest, philosopher and renowned writer. He joined the Jesuits in 1693, and first taught philosophy in Amiens, then at the Collège du Mont in Caen, but, having shown too much attachment to the doctrines of Descartes and Malebranche, he was relieved of this responsibility and given a chair of mathematics in Caen.

He is best known for an "Essai sur le Beau", published in 1741. He is also the author of a Traité sur l'homme, in which he sought to explain the effect of the soul on the body. P. André left behind some manuscripts which are preserved in the library in Caen.

A nice copy, perfectly bound.
