First edition. Very good copy with full margins [quarto, 27.5 x 22 cm], quite complete with the fold-out table and both beautiful coloured map of France depicting the map of treaties and that of the Gabelles. Softcover as it was originally published.
Provenance: Bruley des Varannes (heraldic bookplate) .
Despite the wear and tear on the cover (marks and small tears), the copy is in very good and fresh condition.
Necker’s report was the first official report on a government’s economic policy in France, it was surprisingly successful with the public and largely contributed to Necker’s reputation.
“This report reflects Necker’s ability to manage the kingdom’s finances. He aroused opposition from those at court to such an extent that, despite his great favour with the King and his popularity, he was forced to resign a few months after the publication of this text.”
