De civitate Dei is a Latin work in twenty-two books written by St. Augustine of Hippo between 413 and 426. In the first ten books he defends Christianity against the accusations of pagans and analyses the social-political issues of the time; in the other twelve books, on the other hand, he deals with the salvation of man.
The work, which is one of Augustine's most famous, is an apology of Christianity towards pagan civilization; it discusses topics such as God, martyrdom, Jews and others concerning Christian philosophy.
