IOHAN GEORG D G DVX SAX IVL CLIV ET MONTI

SA ROM IMP ARCHIM ET ELECT

Weight: 29.09 g - 44 mm, rare in this condition.

John George I replaced his brother Krystian II in 1611, receiving the title of Augustus. Initially, he was allied with Emperor Ferdinand II, which was met with disapproval by the Protestant side. Social dissatisfaction with the prince's policy, and lack of material benefits from the war in Bohemia, meant that in 1631 John George I Wettin switched to the Protestant side and supported Gustav II Adolf .
