Rationale Divinorum Officiorum
Quibus Cumque Sacerdotibus
Lugduni - 1525 -
Antonii Blanchard impressum
4to - 24.5 x 18.5 cm.
Beautiful post-incunabulum of
this work, which had extraordinary success and was reprinted several times.
It carefully describes the liturgy of the time, the Roman rite, it explains the various allegorical meanings and is considered a milestone of the liturgy of the late Middle Ages, with symbolism, rites, vestments etc...
Elegant layout, text on 2 columns in beautiful Gothic lettering with numerous drop caps engraved in the text. Roman numbering of the pages.
Richly illustrated and decorated the title page, enclosed in an architectural frame, with 2-colour print (red and black).
Excellent and very robust binding, slightly more recent (17th century), full parchment, with golden title and label on the spine with 5 raised bands.
Interiors with numerous annotations, probably coeval, only on the first sheets of the text (see photo ), where there are some stains, which however do not prevent regular consultation.
The rest of the sheets are fresh and clean.
Text well anchored to the spine.
Antique monastic ownership stamp (vetus bibliothecam) on the front endpaper and on the first sheet after the title page (see photos).
Coeval bookplate initials on the title page.
Edges slightly sprayed with minium.
In very good overall condition.
