Interesting historical work about the Revolution of 1848 and the beginning of the Second Republic.
During the February 1848 revolution, Caussidière fought on the barricades, seized the police prefecture and was appointed prefect of police by the provisional government. He replaced the city sergeants with the guardians of Paris and created the corps of the "People's Guard", composed of all the recently liberated revolutionaries.
As for the author, a professional conspirator, he took part in all the insurrections since 1832 and was well known to the police. Captain of the mountaineers in 1848 he was involved in the political affairs of the July monarchy. After the february 1848 revolution, he became a captain of Caussidière’s guards, who quickly suspected him of being in tune with the Marrast Special Police; he was then sent to Belgium and Germany
