A superb original watercolour illustration by Jean-Pierre Gibrat, used for the bookplate of the Deluxe edition of Mattéo Volume 1.
Gibrat plays with the viewer this illustration in which we find ourselves in the place of Mattéo staring at Juliette, the former being undoubtedly baffled by her enigmatic attitude, her gaze and her smile.
Is she inviting Matteo to join her? Is there any form of reserve? Are they the sign that Juliet is trying to turn Mattéo's head?
All the magic of this illustration is here: there is no answer, it lets us imagine, and represents with great accuracy what makes the essence and charm of the feminine mystery.
